Pallet and Trash Can Composting

Wood Pallet Compost Holder

May, 2016
Four free pallets screwed together into a square with sabers, covered with a sheet of scrap metal makes an easy compost cooker!   Extra slats from another pallet filled in larger gaps.  The grass, mostly Bermuda, was sprayed with grass killer and topped with many layers of newsprint before any compost material was added.

Barely visible among the flowers and vegetables, the compost bin is in the lower, left corner of the photo below.

In the summer of 2022, I started Trash Can Composting.

Four 32 gallon trash cans with holes in the sides and bottom, are filled with brown and green matter during the first season, which should be black gold by the following spring.  In the center of each trash can is an upright drainage pipe with additional holes for air circulation and ventilation.
